When was your company founded? (What is the history of
Dan-D Foods Ltd.?)
Our company was established by Mr. Dan On in March of 1989, under the name of Dan On & Associates Limited. The company opened its door in the 3,800 square feet warehouse with a small office above it on Glen Drive, a stone's throw away from Chinatown in Vancouver. By March 1990, the company moved to a 17,000 square feet warehouse on Main Street with a total of 12 staff members.
In 1993, the company registered its own trademark of ”Dan-D-Bulk” and produced two package lines:
- “Dan-D-Pak”: for conventional food stores
- “Dan-D-Organic”: for natural and health food stores
During that same year the slogan "Fine Foods of the Earth" was created.
In order to reflect our fine foods business that we are providing to the food industry, the company changed its name to Dan-D Foods Limited in 1999. By late 1999, the company moved to a 67,000 square feet warehouse (investing in state-of-the-art machines and dedicated facilities) on Machrina Way in Richmond, with a staff of 60.
What does Dan-D Foods do?
Dan-D Foods Ltd. imports a variety of Nuts, Dehydrated Fruits, Raisins, Rice Crackers, and Spices from different parts of the world. In addition, we purchase Wheat, Barley, Beans, Cereal and Candies from local suppliers. We are the world leader in the industry as we only select top quality products from our suppliers. The company roasts most of its nut products and produces fruit, nut and trail mixes for distribution to leading food chain stores as well as independent retail stores throughout North America and Asia.
To continue being the world's leader in the fine food business, the company set up its own food processing plant in Vietnam in 2001. Dan-D Foods' factory is running and processing all kinds of food products and supporting our North American and Asian markets. Today, we have over 350 staff members in the Vietnam factory with HACCP and ISO 9001:2000 certification.
How do I place an order?
You can call our order desk from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. (Monday to Friday) or you can fax or e-mail the order to us any time. All orders placed are subject to availability of merchandise. All out of stock items can be called upon request by customers. Please report all errors and claims with the invoice number within the same day upon receiving the delivery. Returned goods are subject to a 25% re-stocking fee and examination.
Does Dan-D Foods offer ordering via website?
Yes, we do offer ordering online, however it is limited to the months of November and December of each year for selected Holiday items only”.
Do you provide the service to ship product outside of Canada?
Yes, we do ship our products outside of Canada. For shipment quantities of less than a skid load, customers will be responsible for the shipping costs. If it is more than a skid load, it will depend on the contract agreements that we have with the customers.
Does Dan-D Foods sell products directly to the public?
Due to manpower, our main customers are food distributors, food brokers, food service companies, restaurants, bakeries, candy shops, cigarettes shops, convenient stores, associations, and airlines. However, during the holiday season, we do sell products directly to the public so long as they meet the required minimum order. In spite of this, if you are interested in our products, you can always contact us via phone, fax, letters, or e-mail and we will gladly direct you to where or whom you can purchase our products from.

What is your payment policy?
Net 15 days on approved credit. 2% cash discount. We are pleased to extend credit to customers whose accounts operate with the companyÂ’s terms. All past due accounts must be cleared before any new orders will be filled. All accounts unpaid after 30 days from invoice date will be charged 2% interest rate per month. An assessment fee of $25.00 will be charged on all NFS cheques. New accounts are required to fill out credit application with the first three orders shipped C.O.D. New out of town customers are required to send a cheque, transfer payment to our bank account or Visa payment on the day of the order.

Do the products have to be refrigerated?
None of our products require refrigeration.
Do you have gluten-free products suitable for celiac?
Our products are gluten-free. However certain retail products that we manufacture may not be suitable for celiac, or those avoiding gluten.
Do your Rice Crackers contain MSG?
In addition to being cholesterol-free and lactose-free, our authentic Rice Crackers contain no MSG, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, active yeast, mold, or cultures. They also do not contain any preservatives.
Are your products organic?
We have nine categories of organic products, they are Dried Fruits; Roasted Beans; Oats & Muesli; Flour; Pancake Mix; Grains, Wheat & Seeds; Beans, Peas & Lentils, Sugar and Rice.
We also have over 2000 other types of products that are non-organic.
Do nuts contain cholesterol?
The basic answer is NO. Cholesterol is found in foods of animal origin, nuts are a plant food. Of course nuts contain high amounts of fat, however, most of the fat is monounsaturated or polyunsaturated versus saturated fat. A 30g serving of mixed nuts contains 15g of total fat and 3g of saturated fat.
What products do you have for people who are allergic to nuts?
The degree of nut allergy is subject to individuals or different nut categories. Among all the nuts, Cashew is considered to have the lowest impact to allergies.
How much cashew nuts could I eat in a day?
One serving size is about ÂĽ cup (43g); which provides 170 Calories, 5g Protein, 3g Saturated fat and is 100% Cholesterol free. The quantity of consumption per day varies and depends on individuals.

The modification of the genetic characteristics of a micro-organism, plant or animal is done by inserting a modified gene or a gene from another variety or species. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s) may be micro-organisms designed for use as biopesticides or seeds that have been altered genetically to give a plant better disease resistance or growth.
GMO is described as an organism in which the genetic material has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination. An organism shall mean any microbiological entity, cellular or non-cellular, capable of replication or of transferring genetic material.

Are your products Kosher Certified?
Our factories are Koshered, so we manufacture our products under Kosher certified process and ingredients. More than 80% of our products are Kosher certified.
How long is the shelf life of the products?
The cashew and bean products have 12-18 months shelf life when stored in cool & dry area. Once opened, it is recommended to eat the product within 8 weeks.
How do you read the date on the package?
In most of our packages, you can find a 4-digit number as packaged date.
The first digit stands for year. (Y=Year Packaged, e.g. 1=2001, 2=2002, …, 9=2009.)
The next three digits stand for Julian Day. (JJJ=Julian Day Packaged, e.g. Jan 1 = 001, Dec 31 = 365 or 366.)
For example, if the number is 5001, that means this product was packed on Jan 1, 2005.
